Food Tech for the Future (FTF) - Fall 2024 & Spring 2025 Training

Hello everyone! Today I have the pleasure of spending the day working with teachers to integrate eight MV1s into their classrooms, throughout the Phoenix, AZ.

Below is a link to the presentation I gave. I would encourage any teachers who attended the session to also post progress updates on this post - and encourage the rest of the community to give them suggestions/ideas as they learn how to use their new MARSfarms!

For this program we chose to use our latest version of software which has more advanced control of permissions. This allows for the creation of ‘programs’ which are separate from organizations, and to which individual access of devices (view experiments, create trials with a device, update trials, etc) is able to be controlled more. Since we had the chance to meet the FTF program participants in person, we wanted to share the latest/greatest with them! @Surendra and @cregini are also using this version of software with their programs as well and I would love it if they share feedback here as well. Soon we’ll be E-mailing all of our users credentials for loging in. This allows us to grant some of the team at Arizona Sustainability Alliance (@Christa-Burgess / Jenn Luna) to also control your devices through the software.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Navigate to the MARSfarm web application. That link is our ‘dev’ or ‘beta’ version of the web application at mv1-dev.herokuapp.com. Our production version of the web application is still available at mv1.marsfarm.com. We will be rolling this out to everyone by the end of the year - at which time all of you in the FTF program will be able to just use the mv1.marsfarm.com URL in the future
  2. Enter your organization name. This method keeps everything about the user anonymous. This program (Food Tech for the Future) has the Organization Name of ‘FTF’. For most of you (not in a program like FTF) this will be a the acronym of your school/district name depending on who purchased the units.
  3. Enter the user code. Anyone can use the User Code of ‘View’ to login and then see pictures and charts of data from the MV1s you’re using - a great way to share what you’re doing with other students/teachers/parents/admin/anyone. Everyone in the FTF program will receive a unique User Code from me via Email, which will also provide them with the ability to then control the MV1(s) they have. If you have multiple MV1s, you will receive multiple codes. One to view all of the data, one for each device you have, and then also one ‘admin’ code for you to use to control all of the devices. This allows you complete control to decide how you distribute those codes to classes/groups/individual students so they can interact with the software.

At the suggesiton of @Christa-Burgess, I went ahead and pulled slide 30 out of the deck below so that the links could be more easily accessed in the post below:
